Green Link Digital Bank

Project Overview

Role & Responsibilities: Lead UI/UX Designer - responsible for defining the design language and sharing resources and tools.
Duration: 06/2021 – 11/2021
Tools: Figma

As part of the team establishing Green Link, a digital bank in Singapore born from the collaboration between Greenland and Linklogis, I was tasked with a critical mission: developing a comprehensive design system to streamline and unify the product design process. Given the complex nature of the banking system and the need to adhere to stringent constraints and guidelines, building a robust and scalable design system was essential to ensure efficiency and consistency.

I played a pivotal role in this endeavor, defining design rules, creating reusable components, and establishing patterns that became the foundation of the bank’s design ecosystem. These efforts addressed challenges and paved the way for a cohesive and impactful user experience.

Challenges to Overcome

  • Inconsistent User Experience: Existing international products lacked a unified design system for both UI and UX, resulting in fragmented user experiences. Variations in design interpretations across business units compounded these inconsistencies.
  • High Product Development Costs: Frequent design iterations, coupled with team transitions, led to inefficient use of resources, increasing development costs and delaying progress.
  • Confusing Product Decision-Making: As the product and team grew, personal opinions often influenced design plans, complicating decision-making and undermining overall consistency and user experience.

Output & Achievements

  • The Link UI-International Design System was developed to address these challenges and establish a unified, scalable framework for design. This system harmonized the user experience by integrating aesthetics with efficiency and consistency across all product interfaces.

  • Following the Atomic Design Methodology, the system was structured across five levels: atoms, molecules, organisms, templates, and pages. This approach ensured clarity, modularity, and adaptability throughout the design process.

  • Building the design system required close collaboration between designers and developers, involving multiple iterations and continuous refinements to achieve its current form. The result was a streamlined design workflow that reduced inconsistencies, minimized resource inefficiencies, and empowered the team to focus on solving creative challenges.

  • The comprehensive design system not only addressed the immediate challenges but also positioned Green Link to deliver a seamless and professional user experience, setting a new standard for digital banking solutions.
